The Importance of Chert in Central Anatolia: Lessons from the Neolithic Assemblage at Çatalhöyük, Turkey

Nazaroff A.J. | Baysal A. | Çiftçi Y.

This paper is a presentation of three sources of artifact-quality chert in Central Anatolia. A previous dearth of research focused on locating and characterizing such raw material sources has incorrectly colored our view of prehistoric economic practices. To remedy this situation, we have conducted a survey of various locales within Central Anatolia to test for the presence of artifact-quality materials. We make use of Individual Attribute Analysis (IAA) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) analysis to discriminate among these materials, and suggest their use by the Neolithic occup ...Daha fazlası

Polar substituent effects in the bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane ring system: Acidities of 3-substituted bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane-1-carboxylic acids

Adcock W. | Baran Y. | Filippi A. | Speranza M. | Trout N.A.

(Chemical Equation Presented) Experimental gas-phase acidities are reported for a series of 3-substituted (X) bicyclo [1.1.1]pent-1-yl carboxylic acids (1, Y = COOH). A comparison with available calculated data (MP2/6-311++G* *// B3LYP/6-311+G**) reveals good agreement. The relative substituent effects are shown to be adequately described by a much lower level of theory (B3LYP/6-31+G*). Various correlations are presented which clearly point to polar field effects as being the origin of the relative acidities.

Simultaneous determination of aliphatic and aromatic amines in ambient air and airborne particulate matters by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

Akyüz M.

A gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method has been proposed for the simultaneous determination of aliphatic and aromatic amines in ambient air and airborne particulate matters (PMs). The method includes collection of the particulate matters (PM2.5 and PM10) using dichotomous Partisol 2025 sampler followed by extraction of the compounds into acidic solution, and pre-concentration of the compounds by percolating the air samples through the acidic solution, then ion-pair extraction of amines with bis-2-ethylhexylphosphate and derivatisation with isobutyl chloroformate prior to their G ...Daha fazlası

Performance improvement and emission reduction in small engine with low efficiency

Celik M.B.

Because air cooled small engines have very low compression ratio and fixed ignition timing, and work on slightly rich mixtures, their specific fuel consumption and emission values are very high. In this study, some modifications were made to improve performance and to reduce emissions in a small engine. The compression ratio of this engine was raised from 5:1 to 10:1, the ignition system was powered and the ignition timing was converted to be variable. The modified engine was operated with lean mixtures at high compression ratio. The test results showed that the power of the modified engine wa ...Daha fazlası

Investigation of iron parts produced with P/M conditions by electrolytic Ni coating method [T/M yöntemi· i·le üreti·lmi·ş demi·r malzemeleri·n elektroli·z yoluyla ni kaplama şartlarinin i·ncelenmesi·]

Çitak R. | Kurt A. | Çorlu Z.

Electrolytic Ni coating conditions of iron parts produced with P/M method and the effect of porosity on the coating quality have been investigated. Specimens were pressed under different pressure and in 10×65mm dimension. The specimens, then, were sintered at 1100°C in Ar atmosphere for 45 minutes. Green and sintered density and porosity ratio of the specimens were determined. All specimens were coated in the same conditions and the coating amounts were determined. The effect of porosity on the coating quality were determined by using adhesive tests. It was determined that the coating amount w ...Daha fazlası

More than an uterotonic agent: Oxytocin prevents peritoneal adhesion [Uterotonik bir ajandan fazlası: Oksitosin postoperatif adezyonları önlüyor]

Işik H. | Şahbaz A. | Aynioğlu Ö. | Bayar Özmen Ü. | Cengil O. | Doğan Gün B.

Prevention of postoperative adhesions (PPA) has become an important issue. The aim is to investigate the effect of Oxytocin (OT) on PPAs. A total of thirty female Wistar-albino rats were randomly divided into three groups (10 rats/group). The cecal peritone of Group I rats (controls) were scraped, to trigger adhesion formation, and no treatment were given. After cecal scrubbing, 1 mL saline solution was applied to each rat in Group II (i.p. saline treated group) and 80 IU/kg of OT (Pituisan®, Ege Vet, Turkey) to Group III (i.p. OT treated group) intraperitoneally. All animals were sacrificed 1 ...Daha fazlası

Macroeconomic processes and regional economies management: Analysis of the reasons that determine Turkish nurses' preference of working abroad by probit model

Korkmaz O. | Çevik N.K.

This study aims to investigate the factors that determine the preferences of nurses working abroad. The survey results of 275 nurses taken into consideration and applied to two different hospitals were analyzed by SPSS and Stata software packages. It was detected that the variable having the highest positive effect is age variable. The older they are the less they prefer to work abroad. The factors which motivate nurses to prefer a job abroad include being a university graduate, being a male, having at least one child, having a monthly income higher than 2000 Turkish Lira (USD/TRY 1.7810), lon ...Daha fazlası

Fracture Resistance of Teeth with Simulated Perforating Internal Resorption Cavities Repaired with Different Calcium Silicate–based Cements and Backfilling Materials

Aktemur Türker S. | Uzunoğlu E. | Deniz Sungur D. | Tek V.

Introduction: This study assessed the fracture resistance (FR) of teeth with simulated perforating internal resorption cavities repaired with different calcium silicate–based cements (CSCs) and backfilling materials. Methods: Ninety-six mandibular premolar teeth were used. Twelve of the teeth were assigned as negative control group. Remaining roots were instrumented with rotary files, and standardized internal resorption cavities were prepared on the middle half of roots with burs. Twelve of the samples were not further interfered and were assigned as a positive control group. The apical 4 mm ...Daha fazlası

Medical malpractices about anesthesia in forensic reports between years 1990 and 2001 [1990-2001 yillari arasinda adli dosyalardaki anesteziyle Ilişkili tibbi uygulama hatalari]

Ayogglu H. | Atasoy H. | Ayogglu F.N.

In this retrospective study, we aimed to evaluate malpractices during anesthesia and postanesthetic period. We found out that 1826 forensic reports were examined at Medical Council between April 1990 and July 2001. Eightytwo cases (4.5%) were directly related with anesthesia. In 52 cases (63.4%) anesthetic management was found to be responsible. Forty nine patients were given general anesthesia and 40 (76.9%) patients died. Anesthetists were found to be responsible for 25% of death cases and 33.4% of other faulty cases. Deaths between 0-10 age group were 42.5% of deaths. Malpractices related t ...Daha fazlası

Expression of PTEN, cyclin D1, P27/KIP1 in invasive ductal carcinomas of the breast and correlation with clinicopathological parameters.

Engin H. | Baltali E. | Güler N. | Güler G. | Tekuzman G. | Uner A.

In this study, tumour tissue samples of 85 primary breast cancer patients were evaluated for phosphatase and tensin homolog deleted on chromosome ten (PTEN), cyclin D1 and P27/Kip1 expression patterns. The results were correlated with clinicopathological parameters. Loss of PTEN protein expression was present in 32.5% of the cases. Cyclin D1 was overexpressed in 54.2% and P27/Kip1 in 89.3% of the cases. Statistically significant associations were found between PTEN and cyclin D1 expression patterns, and cyclin D1 expression and tumour size.
