Synthesis of polytetrahydrofuran macromonomeric peroxy initiators via cationic polymerization

Savaşkan, Sevil | Volga, Cüneyt | Hazer, Baki

Article | 1998 | Designed Monomers and Polymers1 ( 1 ) , pp.111 - 119

Polytetrahydrofuran macromonomeric initiators (poly-THF-inimer) were synthesized via cationic polymerization of THF, initiated by the combination of AgSbFe 6 and mono-, di-, or tetra-bromomethyl benzoyl peroxides, followed by termination with methacrylate anion. The macroinimers were characterized by 1 H-NMR and GPC techniques. Copolymerization of poly-THF-inimers with methyl methacrylate (MMA) gave crosslinked block copolymers. Sol-gel analysis and swelling measurements of the crosslinked product are also reported.

Article | 2000 | Polymer41 ( 2 ) , pp.539 - 544

The dispersion copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with macromonomeric azoinitiator, MIM-400, as a macrocrosslinker initiated by the benzoyl peroxide (BPO)/N,N1 dimethylaniline (DMA) coupled in water/ethanol (4/1, v/v) at 20°C was carried out to yield PEG-b-PMMA networks with labile azo linkages in the main chain. Gel fraction, swelling ratios (q(v)) and the average molecular weights between junction points (M(c)) values of the networks were investigated. Maximum gel fraction was obtained using 0.133 M MIM-400, 9.2 X 10-2 M BPO, 2.1 x 10-2 M DMA and 2.19 M MMA.The dispersion copolymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) wi . . .th macromonomeric azoinitiator, MIM-400, as a macrocrosslinker initiated by the benzoyl peroxide (BPO)/N,N'dimethylaniline (DMA) coupled in water/ethanol (4/1, v/v) at 20 °C was carried out to yield PEG-b-PMMA networks with labile azo linkages in the main chain. The removal of heavy metal ions from aqueous solutions by novel pH-sensitive hydrogels

Yıldız, Ufuk | Kemik, Ömer Ferkan | Hazer, Baki

Article | 2010 | Journal of Hazardous Materials183 ( 01.Mar ) , pp.521 - 532

Novel non-ionic hydrogels were synthesized by radical homopolymerization of N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone (VP) or by radical copolymerization of VP with methylacrylate (MA). A macroinimer (MIM) was used as a crosslinker and initiator, as well. The percentage of mass swelling ratios (SM), the molecular weight between crosslinks (Mc) and Young's modulus of the hydrogels were investigated. The hydrogels were used as binding materials for different heavy metal ions such as Cu2+, Cd2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ under varying conditions. The binding capability of the hydrogels toward the metal ions decreases in the following order: Cu2+>Ni2+>Zn2+>Cd . . .2+. © 2010 Elsevier B.V Daha fazlası Daha az

Polystyrene-b-polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS) multicomponent polymer networks: Styrene polymerization with macromonomeric initiators (macroinimers) having PDMS units

Hamurcu, E. Elif | Hazer, Baki | Baysal, B. M.

Article | 1997 | Polymer38 ( 12 ) , pp.2981 - 2987

A new macromonomeric initiator (macroinimer) was synthesized and evaluated for the bulk polymerization of styrene at 60 and 80°C. The macroinimer containing poly(dimethylsiloxane), PDMS, was synthesized via condensation reactions between 4,-4'-azobis-4-cyanopentanoyl chloride (ACPC), PDMS and methacryloyl chloride. The product (MIM I) was thermally homopolymerized and copolymerized with styrene in bulk. Kinetics of radical polymerization of styrene with MIM I at 60°C and at low conversion was studied. Rate constant K, k p (fk d /k t ) 1/2 , was estimated from kinetic data as 1.15 × 10 -4 1 1/2 mol -1/2 s. Bulk polymerization of styr . . .ene with macroinimers at 80°C gave crosslinked block copolymers. D.s.c. measurements showed that crosslinked block copolymers had a glass transition temperature around 45°C. This is evidence of a plasticizing effect of flexible polysiloxane segments in copolymers. Crosslinked PDMS-b-PS block copolymers obtained using macroinimers may be an interesting group of thermoplastic elastomers. © 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd Daha fazlası Daha az
