Background. To determine whether adequate trophoblastic migration and maternal placental perfusion occurs in cases of early pregnancy loss, we compared vessels in elective abortion decidua with those in spontaneous abortion decidua. Methods. Elective abortion decidua at 5-11 weeks ( n =40) were compared with spontaneous abortion decidua at 5-12 weeks ( n =25). Also normal late secretory endometrial biopsy specimens ( n =10) were examined. The cross-sections of veins and arteries were counted in 25 elective and 15 spontaneous abortion materials. The number of the veins that contain trophoblastic fragments and the number of the spiral . . . arteries converted by trophoblasts were determined. Statistical significance by Mann-Whitney U and Spearman's correlation test was p Daha fazlası Daha az

Angiomyolipoma is a benign tumoral lesion of the kidney which microscopically contains fat, smooth muscle and blood vessels, and may result in retroperitoneal hemorrhage. Lymphangiomyomatosis is a lesion that may lead to diffuse involvement of lungs and cause respiratory failure, spontaneous pneumothorax or pleural effusion. It is characterized by proliferation of a mixture of lymphatic and smooth muscle. Both lesions may be components of tuberous sclerosis, an uncommon syndrome. Our case is 41-year-old female presented with chest pain and dyspnea. Thin walled air cysts were determined in lung parenchyma by thorax tomography and images of enlarged kidneys and mass lesions including areas of adipose density were supplied by abdominal tomography. Right nephrectomy was performed because of intraabdominal hemorrhage. Infiltrative tumor microscopically composed of mature lipomatose, myomatose components and congested blood vessels, and reactive for HMB-45 [Melanoma (gp100) Ab-3 (clone HMB45+HMB50), Neomarkers] was diagnosed as angiomyolipoma. Microscopic evaluation of the lung lesions revealed cystic lymphatic containing smooth muscle cells. The tumor with presence of smooth muscle in the walls of lymphatic shown with trichrome and was diagnosed as lymphangiomyomatosis. The patient died because of irreversible cardiopulmonary arrest on the postoperative 16th day Daha fazlası Daha az

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of tadalafil (TDF) and pentoxifylline (PTX) on hepatic apoptosis and the expressions of endothelial and inducible nitric oxide synthases (eNOS and iNOS) after liver ischemia/reperfusion (IR). Forty Wistar albino rats were randomly divided into five groups (n = 8) as follows: sham group; IR group with ischemia/reperfusion alone; low-dose and high-dose TDF groups received 2.5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg TDF, respectively; and PTX group received 40 mg/kg PTX. Blood was collected for the analysis of serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, ?-glutamyl transferase, uric acid, . . .malondialdehyde (MDA), and total antioxidant capacity (TAC). MDA and TAC also were measured in liver tissue. Histopathological examination was performed to assess the severity of hepatic injury. Apoptosis was evaluated using the apoptosis protease-activating factor 1 (APAF-1) antibody; the expressions of eNOS and iNOS were also assessed by immunohistochemistry in all groups. Serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, ?-glutamyl transferase, uric acid, MDA, and TAC, tissue MDA and TAC levels, hepatic injury, and score for extent and for intensity of eNOS, iNOS, and apoptosis protease-activating factor 1 were significantly different in TDF and PTX groups compared to the IR group. High dose-TDF and PTX have the best protective effect on IR-induced liver tissue damage. This study showed that TDF and PTX supplementation may be helpful in preventing free oxygen radical damage, lipid peroxidation, hepatocyte necrosis, and apoptosis in liver IR injury and minimizing liver damage. © 201 Daha fazlası Daha az

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the size and shape characteristics of prostatic adenocarcinoma cell nuclei using a computer-assisted analysis system, and to compare the results with the Gleason score. Materials and Methods: Morphometric nuclear parameters, such as roundness factor, form ellipse, area, length, and perimeter, were evaluated based on specimen slides of 130 prostatic adenocarcinoma cases (77% needle biopsies and 23% prostatectomy specimens) using a computerized image analysis system. Correlation analysis between Gleason score and morphometric results was performed. Results: The Gleason score was correlated with . . . mean nuclear area (r = 0.516, P = 0.01), mean nuclear length (r = 0.298, P = 0.01), and mean nuclear perimeter (r = 0.303, P = 0.01) for all specimens. In the needle biopsy group the Gleason score was correlated with mean nuclear area (r = 0.522, P = 0.01), mean nuclear length (r = 0.398, P = 0.01), and mean nuclear perimeter (r = 0.432, P = 0.01), whereas in the prostatectomy group the Gleason score was correlated only with mean nuclear area (? = 0.619, P = 0.01) and mean nuclear roundness factor (? = -0.425, P = 0.05). Conclusions: Nuclear size and shape factors, especially mean nuclear area, were concordant with the Gleason score. Nuclear size and shape assessment may aid in the evaluation of the pathological status of prostatic adenocarcinoma.

Serous carcinoma is the prototype of type II endometrial carcinoma. A 71-year-old woman who had history of smoking, diabetes mellitus and hypertension admitted to the hospital with postmenopausal uterine bleeding. Curettage material was diagnosed as adenocarcinoma. Hysterectomy specimen revealed a uterine polypoid mass which afterwards was histopathologically proven to be a serous carcinoma arising from an endometrial polyp. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells showed diffuse reaction for p53 and c-erbB-2, and focal reaction for estrogen and progesterone receptors. In addition to history of diabetes mellitus and hypertension, our case shared some clinical and immunohistochemical characteristics of type I endometrial carcinoma, such as focal expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors. Overexpressions of p53 and c-erbB-2 in this tumor type should be considered Daha fazlası Daha az

Objective: Traumatic neuroma is an exuberant, probably nonneoplastic proliferation of a nerve occurring in response to injury or surgery. We studied six cases of traumatic neuroma with light microscopic, histochemical and immunohistochemical methods to assess the cellular compositions of these lesions. Material and Methods: Sections from the formalin-fixed parafin-embedded tissues were stained with hematoxylin-eosin, Gomori's trichrome, Verhoeff elastica-von Gieson, reticuline, and S-100 protein, Epithelial Membrane Antigen, CD34 and CD68. Results: All cases revealed large numbers of small and haphazardly arranged regenerating nerve . . . fascicles within a densely collagenous and fibroblastic stroma. A focal chronic mononuclear cell inflammatory reaction was observed in three cases. In all cases, Gomori's trichrome revealed collagen. Axonal morphology was detected in nerve fibers histochemically by reticulin. In all cases, fascicles were stained diffusely with S-100 protein, and Epithelial Membrane Antigen showed a positive reaction in a thin band of cells surrounding the fascicles in three of the cases. CD34 positive cells were present in five cases. CD68 expressing cells were present in only in two specimens. Conclusion: In traumatic neuromas, specific staining of fascicles with S-100 protein, perineural cells reactive for Epithelial Membrane Antigen and the presence of CD34 positive cells may contribute to our understanding of their pathogenesis and differentiation of these lesions from mimickers Daha fazlası Daha az
