Article | 2019 | Anadolu Psikiyatri Dergisi20 ( 6 ) , pp.605 - 612

Objective: The relationship between night eating syndrome (NES) and obesity resembles a vicious circle. The presence of NES facilitates the shift to obesity, whereas the NES is more common in obese individuals. In the literature, the frequency of NES is reported as 2-20% in individuals with morbid obesity. In addition to obesity, the presence of NES was associated with higher depression scores and lower self-esteem. The aim of this study was to investigate the prevalence of NES and related factors in morbid obesity patients. Methods: In this study, 452 patients who applied for psychiatric evaluation before the bariatric surgery were . . . evaluated. The presence of psychiatric disorder was assessed by a clinical interview conducted by a psychiatrist. Sociodemographic and clinical features such as age, gender, education level, body mass index were also recorded. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES), and Night Eating Questionnaire (NEQ) were administered. Results: Fifty-nine (13%) of 452 morbid obesity patients were found to have NES. BDI, BAI, and RSES scores were significantly higher in the group with NES than without NES. In the group with NES, compared with non-NES; the rate of psychiatric disorder (44.1% and 26.2%, respectively) and depressive disorder (respecttively, 25.4% and 13%) were significantly higher. The risk of developing NES in smokers increased by 3.05 fold; and a 1 unit increase in the BDI increases the risk of developing NES by 1.05 fold in the morbid obez sample. Discussion: In our study, it was found that comorbidity of NES in morbid obesity patients increased the risk of psychiatric disease, especially depression, and self-esteem was worse in these patients. The fact that smoking is the highest predictor factor for the presence of NES is a finding that has been shown in other studies. The long-term follow-up studies are needed to investigate changes in depression, NES and eating patterns after bariatric surgery. © 2019, (publisher name). All Rights Reserved Daha fazlası Daha az

. .inin çalışma alanında okul sağlığı hizmetleri önemli yer tutar. Okul sağlığı kavramı; öğrencilerin ve okul çalışanlarının, sağlık durumlarının saptanması, geliştirilmesi ve tedavisinin planlanmasıdır. Araştırma okul sağlığı çerçevesinde ergenlerin benlik saygılarının, okul başarısı üzerine olan etkisini incelemek amacıyla, Zonguldak il merkezinde altı genel lisede 15-17 yaş grubu öğrenciler üzerinde yapılmıştır. Araştırma grubu 5694 kişiyi temsil eden 457 ergenden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmamıza katılan öğrencilerin % 41.8’i 15 yaşındadır, % 58.0’i kız, % 42.0’si erkek öğrencidir. Öğrencilerin % 75.1’i orta gelir düzeyindedir, % 92.6’sının annesi, % 3.9’unun babası çalışmamaktadır. Benlik saygısı puanı ve okul başarısı notu arasındaki tek yönlü varyans analizinin sonucuna göre, yüksek, orta ve düşük benlik saygısı puanına sahip gruplar arasında okul başarısı notu yönünden istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (p=0.001). In almost every society individuals are required to adapt to the changes and improvements in the society and to find a place in the society coping with the difficult living conditions. It is necessary for the individuals to be equipped with adequate information and skill in order that this adaptation will be easy. It is the young population that suffers from the adaptation problem most. The adolescent resorts to illegal thoughts and behaviors that are not accepted by the society if he or she does not get over this crisis that is peculiar to this age period. In order to prevent these negativities, guidance and consulting services provided for the individuals in adolescence gain importance. School health services have an important place in the work field of preventive health services that are considered in fundamental health services. The concept of school health is the assessment and improvement of students’ and school workers’ health conditions, and the planning of the treatment. The research group consists of 457 adolescents representing 5694 students. Of the students taking part in our research, 41.8 % is 15 years old, 58.0 % is female, and 42.0 % is male. 75.0 % of the students belong to middle- income classes, mothers of 92.6 % and fathers of 3.9 % have no jobs. According to the result of one-way variance analysis between self-esteem points and academıc marks, there is a considerable statistical difference in academıc marks among the groups getting high, middle and low selfesteem points (p=0.001) Daha fazlası Daha az

Article | 2018 | International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health30 ( 2 ) , pp.605 - 612

Background: Acne vulgaris is a visible skin disease commonly seen in adolescence. As it affects the appearance, it is likely to bring stress to the adolescent's life regarding sensitivity about their appearance. Objective: The aim of the study was to investigate the social anxiety level, acne-specific life quality, and self-esteem among adolescents with acne vulgaris. In addition, we evaluated the relationship between these parameters, clinical severity, and sociodemographic data. Methods: One hundred and two adolescents with acne vulgaris, aged 12-17 years without any psychiatric or medical comorbidity were recruited. The control g . . .roup consisted of 83 adolescents in the same age range, who had neither psychiatric disease nor acne. Sociodemographic form (SDF), Capa Social Phobia Scale for Children and Adolescents (CSPSCA), and Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSES) were applied to both groups. Additionally, the severity of acne was determined with Global Acne Grading System (GAGS), and life quality of the patients was evaluated with Acne Quality of Life Scale (AQOL). Results: There was no significant difference in social anxiety levels and self-esteem between the study and control groups. Life quality impairment and high social anxiety levels, as well as low self-esteem, were found to be associated regardless of the clinical severity. Conclusion: Clinicians should be aware of the psychiatric comorbidities when treating adolescents with acne vulgaris. Especially, low self-esteem and life quality impairment should warn clinicians to predict high social anxiety levels in adolescent acne patients. © 2018 Walter de Gruyter GmbH.
