Sport behaviors of Turkish soccer players: An observational study on personal and team-related dimensions

The current study aims to explore both personal and team-related sports behavior dimensions of Turkish children soccer players. It has been argued that several personal dispositions such as achievement motivation, fear of failure, and aggression levels (Wann, Haynes, McLean, and Pullen, 2003) could be at play when the child is trying to achieve in a sports context. Among related outcomes of these personal dispositions, sports performance, teamwork (Martin, Carron, Eys, and Loughead, 2012), fairplay and sportsmanship behaviors (Arthur-Banning, Wells, Baker, and Hegreness, 2009) have been widely researched and discussed in the literat . . .ure. The current study will try to explore the relationships between these dimensions from a personal disposition perspective using an observational method. The sample consisted of 79 selected male soccer players. A total of 6 teams were observed during soccer play competition games. A high-precision, low cost system for evaluating finger-tapping tasks

Finger-tapping test is extensively employed to assess motor asymmetry in brain damaged patients and also to study the relationship between handedness and performance in normal subjects. The aim of this study was to develop a computer based finger-tapping system that could provide quantitative measures of finger-tapping performance. The system is designed to be used in a standard personel computer without the need of any other hardware. The software is written in Borland Delphi® 6.0 for Microsoft® Windows 98® and higher operating systems. Beginning with the Pentium® processor, it could be possible to access a time-stamp counter. The . . .time-stamp counter is a 64-bit machine specific register that is incremented by every clock cycle, and keeps an accurate count of every cycle that occurs on the processor. By using a computer with 1 GHz processor speed it is possible to reach a high precision time resolution of 1 µs in finger-tapping tests. Our future prospects for the system are to improve it with various tools such as synchronized recording of electromyography, tapping force monitoring, monitoring of finger angle, and the response to different stimulus parameters by adding appropriate hardware and procedure. Performance Estimation of Aster Global DEM Depending upon the Terrain Inclination

A digital elevation model (DEM) is a source of immense three dimensional data revealing topographic characteristics of any region. The performance of a DEM can be described by accuracy and the morphologic conformity. Both depend upon the quality of data set, the used production technique and the roughness of the terrain. The global DEM of ASTER (Advanced Space-borne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer) was released to public utilization as free of charge on June 2009. It covers virtually overall the globe using 1 arc-second posting interval. Especially easy availability renders ASTER Global DEM (GDEM) one of the most popular . . .and considerable global topographic data for scientific applications. From this point of view, the performance of ASTER GDEM has to be estimated for different kinds of topographies. Accordingly, six test fields from Spain (Barcelona) and Turkey (Istanbul and Zonguldak) have been preferred depending upon the terrain inclination. Thus, the advantages and disadvantages of the DEM product have been proved by means of a group of advanced performance analysis. The analyses indicate that the performance of ASTER GDEM is quite satisfying at urban areas because of flat topography. On the other hand, terrain slope has negative effect on the results. Earnings management and performance of management buyouts

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of pre-acquisition earnings management on the performance of private firm management buyouts. Design/methodology/approach: The study examines 291 UK private firms acquired by their managers between 2004 and 2012. Earnings management is investigated by means of cross-sectional discretionary accruals models, and estimated discretionary accruals are regressed on performance changes in the three years following acquisition. Findings: Management buyouts of private firms are preceded by earnings overstatement and followed by performance deterioration. Private equity sponsored fir . . .ms engage less in earnings management and remain more profitable than non-sponsored buyouts. Upward earnings managers cease to outperform industry after second post-buyout year, while aggressive earnings managers do not outperform industry at all. Discretionary total accruals are inversely associated with performance changes in the three years after buyout, and explain over 4 per cent of the changes in performance. Research limitations/implications: Pertinent to the utilisation of private firms and their exemption from publishing cash flow statement, the study relies on accrual-based models for tests of earnings management. DEM generation with short base length pleiades triplet

An image triplet of Pleiades images covering the area of Zonguldak, Turkey has been investigated. The height to base relation of the first to the last image is just 1:4.5 and for the first and the second image 1:9. This is quite below the usual height to base relation of 1:1.6 for a typical stereo pair of space images. The corresponding small angle of convergence influences the possible vertical accuracy, but images with such a small angle of convergence are more similar to each other as images with larger convergence angles. This enables a better image matching, improving the vertical accuracy and compensating partially the influen . . .ce of poor intersection geometry. Even over forest areas no matching gaps occurred. Height models are generated with different base configurations and compared with a reference height model. Pleiades images are distributed with 50cm ground sampling distance instead of the physical size of 70cm, the image quality justifies this zooming and also the geometric results are in the range of other space images with originally 50cm GSD. The image orientation by bias corrected Rational Polynomial Coefficients (RPC) is leading with more as 160 ground control points (GCP) to root mean square (RMS) differences slightly below 1.0 GSD of the distributed images (0.5m GSD). Only negligible systematic errors have been identified. With the combination of the first and last image a standard deviation of the generated height model of 1.6m, respectively for flat terrain close to 1.0m has been reached in relation to a reference height model.
