A research of the relation between study orientations, gender and school achievement

This study aimed to assess the study orientations of primary school fifth grade students, to determine their relationship with gender and achievement and to find how much the sub-dimensions of study orientation predicted the achievements. The sample consisted of some 234 fifth grade students randomly selected from six state schools in Eregli in the Black Sea Region. The study orientations of students were measured with the Survey of Study Habits and Attitudes (SSHA), and their achievements were determined depending on the year-end transcripts obtained from the school administirators. What is the Effect of Case-Based Learning on the Academic Achievement of Students on the Topic of “Biochemical Oxygen Demand?”

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the case-based learning (CBL) method used in “biochemical oxygen demand (BOD),” which is a topic taught in the environmental chemistry course, at Dokuz Eylul University, on the academic achievement and opinions of students. The research had a quasi-experimental design and the study group consisted of 4th and 5th grade students (N = 18) attending the Chemistry Teaching Program in a university in Izmir. The “Biochemical Oxygen Demand Achievement Test (BODAT)” and the structured interview form were used as data collection tools. The results of BODAT post-test showed the higher . . .increase in the achievement scores of the experimental group may be an indication of the effectiveness of the CBL method in improving academic achievement in the relevant topic. Hemen her toplumda, bireylerin zor yaşam koşullarının altından kalkarak, toplum içindeki değişim ve gelişmelere uyum sağlamaları ve toplum içinde bir yer bulmaları istenir. Bu uyumun kolay olması için bireylerin yeterli bilgi ve beceri ile donatılması gerekmektedir. Uyum sorununu en çok yaşayan genç nüfustur. Ergen birey, bu yaş dönemine özel krizi atlatamazsa toplum tarafından onaylanmayan, yasal olmayan düşünce ve davranışlara yönelir. Bu olumsuzlukları önlemek için ergenlik dönemindeki ergen bireylere verilen rehberlik ve danışmanlık hizmeti önem kazanmaktadır. Temel sağlık hizmetleri kapsamında yer alan koruyucu sağlık hizmetler . . .inin çalışma alanında okul sağlığı hizmetleri önemli yer tutar. Okul sağlığı kavramı; öğrencilerin ve okul çalışanlarının, sağlık durumlarının saptanması, geliştirilmesi ve tedavisinin planlanmasıdır. Araştırma okul sağlığı çerçevesinde ergenlerin benlik saygılarının, okul başarısı üzerine olan etkisini incelemek amacıyla, Zonguldak il merkezinde altı genel lisede 15-17 yaş grubu öğrenciler üzerinde yapılmıştır. Araştırma grubu 5694 kişiyi temsil eden 457 ergenden oluşmaktadır. Araştırmamıza katılan öğrencilerin % 41.8’i 15 yaşındadır, % 58.0’i kız, % 42.0’si erkek öğrencidir. Öğrencilerin % 75.1’i orta gelir düzeyindedir, % 92.6’sının annesi, % 3.9’unun babası çalışmamaktadır. Benlik saygısı puanı ve okul başarısı notu arasındaki tek yönlü varyans analizinin sonucuna göre, yüksek, orta ve düşük benlik saygısı puanına sahip gruplar arasında okul başarısı notu yönünden istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (p=0.001). In almost every society individuals are required to adapt to the changes and improvements in the society and to find a place in the society coping with the difficult living conditions. It is necessary for the individuals to be equipped with adequate information and skill in order that this adaptation will be easy. It is the young population that suffers from the adaptation problem most. The adolescent resorts to illegal thoughts and behaviors that are not accepted by the society if he or she does not get over this crisis that is peculiar to this age period. In order to prevent these negativities, guidance and consulting services provided for the individuals in adolescence gain importance. School health services have an important place in the work field of preventive health services that are considered in fundamental health services. The concept of school health is the assessment and improvement of students’ and school workers’ health conditions, and the planning of the treatment. This research has been carried out on students aged between 15 and 17 in six high schools in the centre of Zonguldak city in order to study the effect of adolescents’ self-esteem on academıc achievement within the framework of school health. The research group consists of 457 adolescents representing 5694 students. Of the students taking part in our research, 41.8 % is 15 years old, 58.0 % is female, and 42.0 % is male. 75.0 % of the students belong to middle- income classes, mothers of 92.6 % and fathers of 3.9 % have no jobs. Problem-based learning (PBL) involves the process of working toward the understanding or solution of a problem. In educational contexts, PBL provides meaningful problems to improve learning. This study aims to investigate the comparative effectiveness of the achievement test and of multiple evaluation methods, including test use, self, peer, and tutor-evaluation, in PBL environments. Different grouping strategies, specifically tutor- and student-based selection, are used to test effectiveness of the evaluation approaches. Effectiveness of a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) Scenario for Enhancing Academic Achievement of Energy Metabolism

This research investigated the effect of problem-based learning (PBL) for the topic of energy metabolism in a biochemistry course on the academic achievements of students studying in the healthcare field in a nursing department. This study was carried out to investigate the flipped learning method on students' academic achievements compared to the traditional method. Aiming to identify the effect size of the flipped learning method (FL) on academic achievement, metaanalysis method is used in this study used. 8 postgraduate theses and 5 articles, which met the inclusion criteria and could be accessed, are included in the meta-analysis.
