Hoşnuter M. | Kargi E. | Babucçu O. | Yenidünya S.

Article | 2003 | Kulak burun bogaz ihtisas dergisi : KBB = Journal of ear, nose, and throat10 ( 4 ) , pp.167 - 170

Lipoma of the deep lobe of the parotid gland is extremely rare. A forty-two-year-old man presented with a painless, soft, and slow-growing mass in the left preauricular area. Ultrasonography and computed tomography findings were consistent with lipoma. The patient was treated with superficial parotidectomy and total excision of the mass with preservation of the facial nerve. Histologic findings confirmed the diagnosis. No recurrences were detected during 1.5 years in the postoperative period.

Article | 2016 | Journal of Plastic Surgery and Hand Surgery50 ( 5 ) , pp.291 - 297

Background: The main purpose of this study was to assess the effects of ozone gas on the viability of flaps for reconstruction and to determine the optimum application method. The antioxidant, immunomodulatory, and reperfusion effects of ozone gas have been previously assessed, and successful results have been reported. However, only one study has investigated the effect of ozone gas on flap viability. In the present study, it was hypothesised that the antioxidant and reperfusion effects of ozone gas would enhance flap viability. Methods: Forty female Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups of 10 rats each. A cranial-base . . .d, 3 × 11 cm modified McFarlane flap including the panniculus carnosus was raised from the dorsum of a rat and re-sutured to its own bed using 3/0 sharp propylene. Group 1 (n = 10): no pharmacological agent was used after the operation. Group 2 (n = 10): vegetable (olive) oil group; vegetable-oil-impregnated gauze was used as a dressing for 7 days. Group 3 (n = 10): Vegetable (olive) oil with ozone peroxide group; vegetable oil with ozone peroxide-impregnated gauze was used as a dressing for 7 days. Group 4 (n = 10): Hemo-ozone therapy group; hemo-ozone therapy was applied rectally once every day for 7 days. All rats were sacrificed at the end of week 1 and assessed macroscopically and histopathologically. Results: The proportion of substantive necrosis was less in group 4 than in the other three groups. Survival area ratios were better in groups 2 and 3 than in group 1; however, there was no significant difference between groups 2 and 3. No significant differences in the histopathological scores were observed among the groups. Conclusion: Ozone gas enhanced flap viability. No differences in flap viability were observed between the vegetable oil and vegetable oil with ozone peroxide groups. The greatest benefit ratios were found in the hemo-ozone therapy group. © 2016 Acta Chirurgica Scandinavica Society Daha fazlası Daha az

Article | 2004 | Journal of Dermatology31 ( 1 ) , pp.27 - 31

Benign fibrous histiocytoma is a common soft tissue tumor that can be deep or superficially located. Although the deep type of fibrous histiocytoma has a predilection for the orbit, the eyelids are an unusual location for the cutaneous type. A 42-year-old woman had bilateral yellowish nodular masses of the eyelids for two years. Pathological examination after excision revealed benign fibrous histiocytoma. Our case is an unusual clinical presentation of cutaneous fibrous histiocytoma as well as a rare location such as the eyelids.

Caffeic acid phenethyl ester improves oxidative organ damage in rat model of thermal trauma

Severe burn injuries cause functional impairment in distant internal organs. Although this mechanism is not clear, it is possible that free radical toxicity plays an important role. Research in animals and clinical studies have shown that there is a close relationship between a lipid peroxidative reaction and secondary pathological changes following thermal injury. It has been demonstrated that antioxidant treatment prevents oxidative tissue damage associated with thermal trauma. This study was designed to determine the possible protective effect of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) treatment against oxidative damage in the kidney . . . and lung induced by thermal injury. Rats were decapitated either 1, 3 or 7 days after burn injury. CAPE was administered intraperitoneally immediately after thermal injury. Kidney and lung tissues were taken for the determination of malondialdehyde (MDA) level, myeloperoxidase (MPO), catalase (CAT), Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and xanthine oxidase (XO) activities. Severe skin thermal injury caused a significant decrease in SOD and CAT activities, as well as significant increases in MDA level, XO and MPO activities in tissues during the postburn period. Treatment of rats with CAPE (10 µmol/kg) significantly elevated the decreased SOD and CAT activities, while it decreased MDA levels and MPO as well as XO activity Daha fazlası Daha az

The accordion suture technique: A modified rhinoplasty spreader flap

Article | 2015 | Journal of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery43 ( 6 ) , pp.796 - 802

In rhinoplasties, a spreader flap is a widely used alternative to dorsal reconstruction with spreader grafts; however, it has a limited ability to provide sufficient nasal dorsal width. The upper lateral cartilage (ULC) thickness is four times thinner than a spreader graft. This report presents an accordion suture technique for the ULC that involves simple sutures which fix each ULC (3 times folded) to the septum. We performed this technique in 64 primary rhinoplasties, and the patients were followed up for approximately 18 months. The patients completed a questionnaire 12 months postoperatively, and reported marked satisfaction wit . . .h the aesthetics and function. Furthermore, rhinomanometric analysis showed that nasal airway resistance (NAR) decreased significantly in the postoperative period. © 2015 European Association for Cranio-Maxillo-Facial Surgery Daha fazlası Daha az

Silicone gel sheet dressing for sclerodermatous type chronic graft-versus-host-disease (cGVHD)

Dinçer S.L. | Kargi E. | Dinçer S. | Fitoz F. | Akan H.

Article | 2004 | Turkish Journal of Haematology21 ( 2 ) , pp.107 - 110

Systemic sclerosis is an autoimmune disease characterized by endothelial cell injury, fibroblast activation and immunological aberrations. Generalized form of the disease involves skin and other organs. Progressive sclerodermatous type cGVHD is the difficult type to treat. Immunosuppressors are the most commonly used treatment regimens. Topical silicone gel sheet (SGS) were first used in the treatment of burn wound and following their initial successes have begun to be used in the treatment of hypertrophic scars and keloids. To best of our knowledge, this is the first patient with extensive sclerodermatous type cGVHD in whom SGS was . . . applied on to the skin of the antecubital region. After a six months application of SGS, the skin of this region was remarkably soft and thick compared to other regions of the arm. The result indicate that SGS may be an useful tool for the treatment of extensive sclerodermatous type cGVHD Daha fazlası Daha az

Isolated plantar collagenoma: A case report

Altinyazar H.C. | Kargi E. | Gün B.D. | Koca R. | Tekin N.S.

Article | 2002 | Journal of Dermatology29 ( 8 ) , pp.508 - 511

Collagenoma is a hamartomatous lesion consisting of proliferation of normal collagen tissue. We describe a 19-year-old girl with a firm, elastic 3 × 2 cm nodule located on her right plantar fossa. Histopathologically, dense, coarse, thick collagen fibers were located in the dermis. In addition, the number of elastic fibers was slightly decreased. Based on these findings, the case was diagnosed as isolated plantar collagenoma.

Yurtlu S. | Hanci V. | Kargi E. | Erdogan G. | Köksal B.G. | Gül S. | Okyay R.D.

Article | 2011 | Journal of International Medical Research39 ( 5 ) , pp.1923 - 1931

This prospective, randomized, placebocontrolled study evaluated the effects of dexketoprofen as an adjunct to lidocaine in intravenous regional anaesthesia (IVRA) or as a supplemental intravenous (i.v.) analgesic. Patients scheduled for elective hand or forearm soft-tissue surgery were randomly divided into three groups. All 45 patients received 0.5% lidocaine as IVRA. Dexketoprofen was given either i.v. or added into the IVRA solution and the control group received an equal volume of saline both i.v. and as part of the IVRA. The times of sensory and motor block onset, recovery time and postoperative analgesic consumption were recor . . .ded. Compared with controls, the addition of dexketoprofen to the IVRA solution resulted in more rapid onset of sensory and motor block, longer recovery time, decreased intra- and postoperative pain scores and decreased paracetamol use. It is concluded that coadministration of dexketoprofen with lidocaine in IVRA improves anaesthetic block and decreases postoperative analgesic requirements. © 2011 Field House Publishing LLP Daha fazlası Daha az

An improvement in dorsal reverse adipofascial flap for fingertip reconstruction: Nail matrix preservation

Hoşnuter M. | Kargi E. | Işikdemir A.

Article | 2005 | Annals of Plastic Surgery55 ( 2 ) , pp.155 - 159

Dorsal reverse adipofascial flap (DRAF) is one of the most reliable choices for reconstruction of fingertip amputations. A drawback of this method is matrixectomy, which is routinely performed in distal phalangeal amputations, even when the germinal matrix and some nail bed is intact. However, the nail is important for both functional and esthetic reasons and should not be killed. We described a new approach to DRAF, in selected cases, for preserving the nail. As a result, we obtained useful and esthetic fingertip with a nail unit. Copyright © 2005 by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.
