Article | 2016 | Phosphorus, Sulfur and Silicon and the Related Elements191 ( 3 ) , pp.438 - 443

A series of novel N-and N,N'-bis(quinonyl)amines were synthesized from the reactions of 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone (1) and polyoxypropylenediamines. The novel quinone-amine polymers were treated with some thiols in next step and N,S-substituted compounds were obtained. The structures of the novel products were characterized by micro-analysis, 1H NMR, UV-VIS, 13C NMR, and MS. The electrochemical properties of some of the novel amine-quinone polymers derivatives were also investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The number of molecular weight (Mn) of polymer compounds was also determined by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC). © 2016 . . .Taylor & Francis Group, LLC Daha fazlası Daha az

Article | 2019 | Materials Technology , pp.438 - 443

Postoperative infection in orthopaedic and trauma surgery is one of the most feared complications. Recently, the high prevalence of multidrug-resistant bacteria has made the antibiotic treatment ineffective; thus novel non-antibiotic alternative approaches to this problem are urgently needed. Based on these expectations, in this work, in order to enhance the cytocompatibility and antibacterial performances of poly (methyl methacrylate (PMMA) and beta-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP) bone cements were impregnated with polystyrene (PS)-g-soybean oil graft copolymer containing AgNPs (PS-Agsbox), and we assessed the antimicrobial activity o . . .f the fabricated bone cements against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Nanoparticles at concentration of 1.25% (5 ß-TCP) w/w in ß-TCP bone cements were able to inhibit pathogens growth, while a concentration of 3.75% (15PMMA) was needed for PMMA bone cement. Therefore, the impregnated bone cements with PS-AgsboxNPs may be further explored as an alternative antimicrobial therapy for the treatment of infected bone defects. © 2019, © 2019 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group Daha fazlası Daha az

Genç, Ayten | Tosun, İsmail

Article | 2004 | Chemical Engineering Communications191 ( 1 ) , pp.125 - 136

A mathematical model based on multiphase filtration theory is developed to describe the electrofiltration process. The model takes both electrophoretic and electroosmotic effects into account. The electrophoretic migration velocity of solid particles is predicted from the model using the filtrate volume time data obtained from electrofiltration experiments.

Özaçmak, Veysel Haktan | Özaçmak-Sayan, Hale | Barut, Figen

Article | 2016 | Nutritional Neuroscience19 ( 4 ) , pp.176 - 186

Objectives: Resveratrol appears to have neuroprotective potential in various animal models of brain disorders including cerebral ischemia and neurodegenerative diseases. Chronic cerebral hypoperfusion is a well-known pathological condition contributing to the neurodegenerative diseases such as vascular dementia. Purpose of the present study is to evaluate the possible therapeutic potential of resveratrol in a model of vascular dementia of ovariectomized female rats. Assessment of the potential was based on the determination of brain oxidative status, caspase-3 level, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and neuronal damage on hip . . .pocampus and cerebral cortex. Methods: For creating the model of chronic cerebral hypoperfusion, ovariectomized female Wistar rats were subjected to the modified two vessel occlusion method, with the right common carotid artery being occluded first and the left one a week later. Results: At the 15th day following the ligation, neuronal damage was accompanied by the increased immunoreactivities of both GFAP and caspase-3, and significant neurodegeneration was evident in the hippocampus and cortex, all of which were significantly alleviated with resveratrol treatment (10 mg/kg). Biochemical analysis revealed that the resveratrol treatment decreased lipid peroxidation and restored reduced glutathione level as well. Discussion: The collected data of the present study suggest that the administration of resveratrol may provide a remarkable therapeutic benefit for vascular dementia, which is most likely related to the prevention of both apoptotic cell death and oxidative stress. We believe that therapeutic efficacy of resveratrol deserves to be tested for potential clinical application in postmenopausal elderly women suffering from vascular dementia. © 2015 W. S. Abdikan S.

Article | 2018 | Geocarto International33 ( 1 ) , pp.21 - 37

Remote sensing data utilize valuable information via various satellite sensors that have different specifications. Image fusion allows the user to combine different spatial and spectral resolutions to improve the information for purposes such as forest monitoring and land cover mapping. In this study, I assessed the contribution of dual-polarized Advanced Land Observing Satellite/Phased Array type L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar data to multispectral Landsat imagery. The research investigated the separability of forested areas using different image fusion techniques. Quality analysis of the fused images was conducted using qualitati . . .ve and quantitative analyses. I applied the support vector machine image classification method for land cover mapping. Among all methods examined, the à trous wavelet transform method best differentiated the forested area with an overall accuracy (OA) of 94.316%, while Landsat had an OA of 92.626%. The findings of this study indicated that optical-SAR-fused images improve land cover classification, which results in higher quality forest inventory data and mapping. © 2016 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group Daha fazlası Daha az

Korkut, Şeyda | Kılıç, Muhammet Samet

Article | 2016 | Environmental Technology (United Kingdom)37 ( 2 ) , pp.163 - 171

The present work reported a compartment-less enzymatic fuel cell (EFC) based on newly synthesized Poly(pyrrole-2-carboxylic acid-co-3-thiophene acetic acid) film containing glucose oxidase and laccase effectively wired by p-benzoquinone incorporated into the copolymer structure. The resulting system generated a power density of 18.8 µW/cm2 with 30 mM of glucose addition at +0.94 V at room temperature. Improvements to maximize the power output were ensured with step-by-step optimization of electrode fabrication design and operational parameters for operating the system with renewable fuel sources. We demonstrated that the improved fu . . .el cell could easily harvest glucose produced during photosynthesis to produce electrical energy in a simple, renewable and sustainable way by generating a power density of 10 nW/cm2 in the plant leaf within 2 min. An EFC for the first time was successfully operated in municipal wastewater which contained glycolytic substances to generate electrical energy with a power output of 3.3 µW/cm2. © 2015 Taylor & Francis Daha fazlası Daha az

Is the recurrence rate of chronic subdural hematomas dependent on the duration of drainage?

Kale A. | Öz İ.İ. | Gün E.G. | Kalaycı M. | Gül Ş.

Article | 2017 | Neurological Research39 ( 5 ) , pp.399 - 402

Objectives: Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) is the most frequent type of intracranial hemorrhage which especially affects the elderly. Various surgical techniques have been reported for CSDH treatment; optimal treatment methods are still controversial. In this study, the effects of long drainage durations on results and recurrences were investigated in patients on whom closed system drainage with burr hole craniotomy was applied due to CSDH. Methods: 90 patients with 105 CSDH were operated between 2008 and 2016. Patients were divided into two groups based on the duration of drainage. Group A (n = 40) was determined as 2–4 days of c . . .losed-system drainage, while Group B (n = 50) was recorded as 5–7 days of closed-system drainage. Recurrence was defined as accumulation of blood in the operation area and recurrence of symptoms within the monitoring period of six months. Results: Recurrence was observed in 7 (15.6) of the Group A patients and 2 (3.3%) of the Group B patients. There was a statistically significant difference between groups in terms of recurrence rate (p = 0.04). Postoperative thickness of hematoma was measured in the first month follow-up computerized tomography. There was a statistically significant difference between groups in terms of postoperative thickness of residual hematoma (p = 0.05). Conclusion: 2–4 days of closed system drainage following burr hole craniotomy is an effective and reliable choice of treatment in CSDH. Nevertheless, increasing the duration of drainage to 5–7 days provided better results without increasing the risk of complication. © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group Daha fazlası Daha az

Sefercik U.G. | Karakis S. | Atalay C. | Yigit I. | Gokmen U.

Article | 2018 | Geocarto International33 ( 10 ) , pp.1139 - 1154

The automatic extraction of information content from remotely sensed data is always challenging. We suggest a novel fusion approach to improve the extraction of this information from mono-satellite images. A Worldview-2 (WV-2) pan-sharpened image and a 1/5000-scaled topographic vector map (TOPO5000) were used as the sample data. Firstly, the buildings and roads were manually extracted from WV-2 to point out the maximum extractable information content. Subsequently, object-based automatic extractions were performed. After achieving two-dimensional results, a normalized digital surface model (nDSM) was generated from the underlying di . . .gital aerial photos of TOPO5000, and the automatic extraction was repeated by fusion with the nDSM to include individual object heights as an additional band for classification. The contribution was tested by precision, completeness and overall quality. Novel fusion technique increased the success of automatic extraction by 7% for the number of buildings and by 23% for the length of roads. © 2017, © 2017 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group Daha fazlası Daha az
