Other | 2009 | Yeni Tıp Dergisi26 ( 4 ) , pp.226 - 229

Bu çalışmanın amacı, Türkiye’deki hemşirelik okullarının müfredat ders programlarında yoğun bakım hemşireliği dersinin yer alıp almadığına ilişkin güncel durumu belirlemektir. Tanımlayıcı nitelikteki araştırmada, 2007 yılında, Türkiye’de bulunan 83 adet lisans düzeyinde eğitim veren hemşirelik okullarından 78’i örneklem kapsamına alınmıştır. The purpose of this study was to determine the current situation that there has been critical care nursing lesson or not in course programmes in nursing schools’ curriculum of Turkey. In this descriptive study, 78 nursing schools were taken in sample group out of 83 nursing schools at undergraduate level in Turkey in 2007. Data were collected via online, telephone and fax and were expressed using numbers and percentages. Five nursing schools were excluded in this study. It was found that there were 68 school of health (includes department of nursing), 13 school of nursing and 2 faculty of health sciences (includes department of nursing). It was determined that only 8 (10,2%) nursing schools in Turkey had ‘Critical Care Nursing’ lesson in their curriculums. About six nursing schools out of eight had only theoretic course, one school had just practice and one nursing school had both theoretic course and practice. ECTS credits changed between 0-4 credits. Curriculum of the nursing schools at undergraduate level in Turkey ought to be readjusted according to scientific and technologic improvements, healthcare needs, healthcare system and policy and changing demographic characters as quitting traditional curriculum at current and should be by providing standards at international level Daha fazlası Daha az

CP-violating WW gamma couplings in e gamma collision with polarized beams

Sahin, Banu

Article | 2009 | PHYSICA SCRIPTA79 ( 6 ) , pp.232 - 236

We investigate the constraints on CP-violating triple WW gamma gauge boson couplings through the process e gamma -> W nu(e). Considering the longitudinal and transverse polarization states of the final W and incoming polarized beams, we find 95% confidence level limits on CP odd anomalous coupling parameters (lambda) over tilde and (kappa) over tilde with an integrated luminosity of 500 fb(-1) and root s = 0.5, 1 and 1.5 TeV energies. It is shown that the initial and final state polarizations improve the sensitivity limits of (lambda) over tilde by a factor of 1.3-1.6 and of (kappa) over tilde by a factor of 5.2-9.

CALCIUM OXALATE CRYSTALS IN LEAVES OF QUERCUS CERRIS L. AND Q-ILEX L.

Kaplan, Hatice Coelgecen Ayse | Buyukkartal, H. Nurhan

Article | 2009 | BANGLADESH JOURNAL OF BOTANY38 ( 1 ) , pp.103 - 105

Leaves of Quercus cerris L. were collected from Zonguldak, Devrek and those of Q. ilex L. samples were collected from Zonguldak, Eregli, Turkey. The leaf sections were subjected to histochemical analysis and brown-black stained calcium oxalate crystals were identified. The organic contents in the leaves were completely cleaned for polarizing microscope investigation. Calcium oxalate crystals were found to be druz and prismatic in Q. cerris and Q. ilex species. While druz crystals were localized in mesophyll, prismatic ones were localized around the leaf vessels. The amount of calcium oxalate crystals per mm(2) was determined in perm . . .anent preparations Daha fazlası Daha az

A case of cervical spine meningioma following etanercept use in a patient with RA

Pamuk O.N. | Harmandar F.

Article | 2009 | Nature Reviews Rheumatology5 ( 8 ) , pp.457 - 460

Background. A 70-year-old female with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA) was administered etanercept to treat active disease that persisted despite therapy with conventional DMARDs. After 18 months of etanercept therapy, her RA symptoms had improved; however, she developed quadriparesis. She presented to a specialist rheumatology clinic with weakness and numbness in her arms and legs; she also had difficulty in standing up and walking. Investigations. Physical examination, neurological examination, nerve conduction studies, measurement of serum inflammatory markers and autoantibodies, MRI of the cranium and cervical spine, and X-rays . . .of the chest and hands. Diagnosis. The patient underwent neurosurgery to resect a 1 × 2 cm mass in the cervical spine at C6–C7. Histopathologic examination of the excised mass revealed it to be a meningioma. Management. Etanercept was discontinued because of a possible association between the drug and development of meningioma; however, shortly afterwards the patient experienced a flare of RA symptoms. High-dose NSAIDs and prednisolone were administered, but the patient died because of gastric perforation. To our knowledge, this is the first report in the literature of meningioma developing following use of tumor necrosis factor inhibitor therapy, and the first to suggest a cause–effect relationship. © 2009 Macmillan Publishers Limited. Dynamic dielectric response of a quantum wire superlattice in interaction with a nonlocal host medium

Ayaz Y.

Article | 2009 | Physics Letters, Section A: General, Atomic and Solid State Physics373 ( 43 ) , pp.3982 - 3988

We study nonlocality effects of a bulk plasmalike dielectric medium on the plasmon spectrum of a one-dimensional (1D) quantum wire superlattice in interaction with the 3D nonlocal host bulk plasma, by carrying out a closed-form analytic determination of the inverse dielectric function ? for the joint nanostructure system within the random phase approximation (RPA), in which we treat nonlocality of the 1D superlattice in the RPA and that of the bulk medium in the hydrodynamic model. By examining the frequency poles of ? (i.e., the dispersions relations), we show analytically that coupled plasmon modes of the interacting 1D superlatti . . .ce-3D nonlocal host are damped in high frequencies (damping is pronounced near resonance region) and that nonlocality of the host medium introduces nonlocal low frequency (real) modes into the spectrum, which have cutoff frequencies for finite wave vector values. In order to describe the impact of nonlocality effects more clearly, we also examine the spectrum numerically. © 2009 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved Daha fazlası Daha az

Probe of anomalous neutrino couplings to W and Z in medium energy setup of a beta-beam facility

Balantekin A.B. | Sahin I. | Sahin B.

Article | 2009 | Journal of High Energy Physics2009 ( 5 ) , pp.3982 - 3988

Capability of medium energy setup of a beta beam experiment to probe new physics contributions to neutrino-W and neutrino-Z couplings are investigated. We employ the effective lagrangian approach of Buchmuller and Wyler and obtain 95% confidence level limits on neutrino couplings to these gauge bosons without assuming the flavor universality of the coupling of neutrinos. We show that a beta beam facility with a systematic error of 2% can place 10 times more restrictive limit than present one on the deviations from the electron neutrino-Z couplings in the Standard Model. © 2009 SISSA.

Heat capacity of 13- and 19-atom PDCO binary clusters: Parallel tempering monte carlo study

Arslan H. | Irmak A.E.

Article | 2009 | International Journal of Modern Physics C20 ( 11 ) , pp.1737 - 1747

Alloy nanoclusters are of interest because of their novel properties compared to bulk alloys. In this study, the thermal behavior of 13- and 19-atom PdCo binary clusters has been investigated by parallel tempering Monte Carlo technique using the SuttonChen many body potential. Clear changes in heat capacity curve are observed as a function of PdCo composition. We also found that, the 13-atom cluster melts in two stages and 19-atom cluster melts as a whole. © 2009 World Scientific Publishing Company.

Comparison of nanofiltration and adsorption techniques to remove arsenic from drinking water

Cakmakci M. | Baspinar A.B. | Balaban U. | Uyak V. | Koyuncu I. | Kinaci C.

Article | 2009 | Desalination and Water Treatment9 ( 01.Mar ) , pp.149 - 154

Arsenic occurs naturally in the ground and surface water and is not desired in the drinking water due to carcinogenic effect on human body. The common types of arsenic are arsenate (As V) and arsenite (As III). Although arsenate removal has been achieved by membranes, adsorption, ion exchange and coagulation, arsenite removal is diffi cult to decrease the concentration up to the standard level (below to 10 µg/L). In this study, nanofi ltration (NF) and adsorption techniques have been compared to remove arsenite from drinking water. In nanofi ltration study, different NF membranes and arsenite feed concentrations have been studied. F . . .eed water was prepared synthetically and laboratory scale cross-fl ow mode fi ltration apparatus with a fl at-sheet membrane cell was used for NF experiments. In the adsorption experiments with granular iron hydroxide (GIH), all studies were performed in the free water flow and at the normal pH of tap water. It was concluded that arsenite concentration was lowered to below 10 µg/L with adsorption. These results showed that GIH adsorption can be used to remove arsenite concentration of 0.1 and 0.5 g/L from water supplies. © 2009, Taylor & Francis Group, LLC Daha fazlası Daha az

Extra dimensions in photon-induced two lepton final states at the CERN LHC

Atag S. | Şahin I. | Ahin S.I.

Article | 2009 | Physical Review D - Particles, Fields, Gravitation and Cosmology80 ( 7 ) , pp.149 - 154

We discuss the potential of the photon-induced two lepton final states at the LHC to explore the phenomenology of the Kaluza-Klein tower of gravitons in the scenarios of the Arkani-Hamed, Dimopoulos, and Dvali model and the Randall-Sundrum model. The sensitivity to model parameters can be improved compared to the present LEP or Tevatron sensitivity. © 2009 The American Physical Society.
